New E-Books on Fire Service Leadership, Diversity, Educating the Public and More!

I’ve been publishing this blog for a little more than 5-years and in that time my guest bloggers and I have compiled 3d man sitting on ebook word reading a red book isolated illustrationquite an accumulation of articles on a variety of fire service leadership topics.

Recently, I decided to start creating e-books using selected articles that originally posted here. Essays on various topics from myself as well as guest bloggers such as Fire Chief Susanna Schmitt-Williams, Fire Chief Bud Backer, Battalion Chief Marlene Kostyrka, and Fire Educator Tanya Bettridge.

Here are the first three that are now available in both PDF file format and Kindle Editions. I hope you’ll purchase them and get value from having done so.

Upcoming e-books will do the same with more topics like: Sexual Harassment in the Fire Service; PTSD and Mental Health Challenges in the Fire Service; and Training and Development of Your People.

Thank you for your support and readership!

Essays on Educating the Public and Ourselves

By: Robert Avsec, Battalion Chief (Ret.), Chesterfield County (Va.) Fire and EMS Department

From the Introduction:

“Chief Avsec’s weekly blog, Talking “Shop” 4 Fire and EMS, has covered many different aspects of educating the public and the fire service and many of these discussions are now available in this e-book. It is a great tool to get you thinking about public education, what you are currently doing and what you could be doing more of. It certainly made me think.”

Essays on Fire Service Leadership

By: Robert Avsec, Battalion Chief (Ret.), Chesterfield County (Va.) Fire and EMS Department

From the Introduction:

“Even after retirement, Battalion Chief Robert Avsec continues to be a swashbuckling change agent and share his
experiences in leadership. In this e-book, taken from Chief Avsec’s weekly blog, Talking “Shop” 4 Fire and EMS, he has reached out to other fire services leaders as well, and has provided a broad perception of leadership.

Together these examples of leadership styles or qualities will challenge the traditional norms, which in some cases, hold us back from improving not only our department, but the fire service as a whole. Even after 32-years in the fire service, I could find some fresh perspective in this e-book. Enjoy the read!”

Essays on Diversity and Inclusion in the Fire Service

By: Robert Avsec, Battalion Chief (Ret.), Chesterfield County (Va.) Fire and EMS Department

From the Introduction:

“In this collection of essays, taken from Chief Avsec’s weekly blog, Talking “Shop” 4 Fire and EMS, he and his guest bloggers have taken on the task of bringing a sense of humanity to the discussion about diversity and inclusion in the fire service. I think you’ll find that they’ve “hit the mark.” I know I did.”
